German Cockroaches
One egg case releases up to 40 nymphs, and a single mated female can put thousands of offspring into a building in under a year. This is the one cockroach that does not live outdoors at all, so if it is inside, it is breeding inside.

Seasonal Timeline

Year round. German cockroaches live only indoors at controlled temperature, so there is no dormant season. Complaints peak in summer, but that is a reporting pattern rather than anything the insect is doing.

Apartments and other multi-unit housing run year round in every region, because the insects move between units through shared walls, pipes and wiring rather than responding to the weather.

Where They're Found

German cockroaches turn up anywhere in the country, and no climate rules them out, because this species never occurs outdoors anywhere. It thrives only where people are, which means every infestation was carried in, usually on grocery bags, beverage cartons, furniture or belongings.
